Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have stepped down as royal family members and relocated to California, but that certainly doesn’t stop them from making headlines.
This past few months were no exception as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the news that they had welcomed a baby daughter, naming their second child ‘Lilibet’ after the Queen.
It’s safe to say, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are all anyone can talk about right now.
Following the exciting news, a 2015 interview with Meghan in HELLO! resurfaced, during which she explained that she already had a present to give to her future daughter.
‘I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch,’ Meghan told the publication. ‘When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.’
She continued: ‘I had it engraved on the back, “To M.M. From M.M.” and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.’
What’s more, while she couldn’t have planned it, having bought the watch years before she met Harry, the present will have a special nod to Princess Diana.
How so? Because she too owned a Cartier Tank Francaise watch, which was a present from her father, John Spencer, and she wore it a lot in the months leading up to her death (perhaps to replace the one she was wearing in that famous two watches picture).
This was also said to be Prince William’s favourite piece from her collection, and he inherited it upon her passing, while Prince Harry got her engagement ring, which he later gave his brother to propose to Kate with.
What a meaningful gift.
