Let it not be said that puffer jackets can’t be stylish. Thanks to the likes of Khaite, Isabel Marant, Chloé and even Chanel, the duvet coat as it’s fondly named, is now a full-fledged trend for autumn.
It became a staple last year when we looked for comfort for our lockdown walks, and it’s still a firm favourite for autumn/winter 2021, albeit with a little upgrade.
This season we’re all about exaggerated silhouettes. At Rick Owens, models were draped in floor-length puffer capes, while Khaite’s patent red oversized jacket is already high on most fashion editors’ wishlists. Should budget not allow for a designer option, a great way to emulate the trend on the high street is to simply go a size or two up. Your coat will instantly look more expensive (I recommend Arket’s sell-out down puffer for this).
For an 80s spin on the trend, look to Isabel Marant’s cropped cream jackets, dressed up with high-waisted trousers and a colourful shirt.
In terms of hues, you’re spoiled for choice. From monochrome black and white to earthy shades of khaki and camel, through to brighter reds and blues, there is something for everyone.
As previously mentioned, there are plenty of affordable options on the high street. Special shout out to ARKET, COS and & Other Stories for filling that particular gap in our wardrobe.
Styling-wise, the trend is actually much easier to wear than you think. The street style set are big fans of dressing a puffer up with a knitted dress and chunky ankle boots, or an oversized suit and heels.
It also works remarkably well with another of this season’s biggest trends: the track sole boot. Just add a pair of jeans and a chunky knit for perfect après ski vibes.
